How to Remove VAT/MwST from Your Subscription
How to avoid paying VAT
If you are a business located in another EU country outside of Germany, you can be exempt from VAT by providing a valid EU VAT ID at the time of purchase.
Here’s how it works:
When subscribing or making a purchase, you’ll be asked to enter your billing information.
Reverse charge the VAT — meaning you won’t be charged the 19%.
The responsibility to report and pay the VAT shifts to you under the reverse charge mechanism, as per EU tax regulations.
Important: The VAT ID must be entered during the checkout process. We cannot retroactively refund VAT if the ID is added after the purchase is complete.
What if I don’t have a VAT ID?
If you’re located in the EU and do not have a VAT ID (for example, if you're an individual or a business that is not VAT-registered), we are legally required to charge the 19% German VAT on your invoice.
How to find or apply for a VAT ID
If you're a business in the EU and don’t yet have a VAT ID, you can apply for one through your local tax authority. Once you have it, be sure to include it in your account before your next renewal to avoid VAT charges in the future.
Businesses within Germany must pay VAT and reclaim from the Finanzamt.
