A new E-label per Product, Size and Vintage

The content in this article is not legal advice. Please consult a lawyer or regulator for clarity.

We recommend that each E-Label identifies only one unique and specific product. To ensure legal compliance, it is safest that you create a new E-Label for each:

  • new product.
  • new bottle size.
  • new vintage.

There are, however, a number of different possible solutions to accommodate the necessity of reusing a QR Code.

Please refer to QR Codes and E-Labels for Multiple Vintages for further details on this.

Once an E-Label is generated and in use, already printed on bottles or distributed to partners, it should not be updated to reflect a new vintage or product variation, unless you're correcting inaccurate information. Reusing the same E-Label for a different vintage by simply changing the data will make the original vintage non-compliant.

QR codes are expected to eventually replace barcodes for scanning at checkout. Bottlebooks supports this through GS1 Digital Link, allowing you to embed your GTIN directly into the QR code. Creating distinct E-Labels per vintage and product ensures compatibility with this standard.

Please refer to GS1 Digital Link for further details on this.
